Some kids say they don’t like the taste of milk and prefer soda or juice at meals. Many kids like yogurt, but it’s not likely that they will be able to eat four or five servings every day. Here are some easy ways to increase the amount of calcium that kids get.
Include cereal, served with milk, in every breakfast.
Enroll your child in the lunch milk program at your school.Let kids drink chocolate or strawberry milk. Serve hot chocolate made with milk on cold afternoons. Make blender shakes with milk, ice cream or frozen yogurt, and vanilla, banana, chocolate or other flavors.
Serve lots of green vegetables like spinach, broccoli, and collards. And most importantly, let your kids know how important you think it is that they eat dairy products. Pour 8 to 12 ounces of milk for them at each meal, and pour a glass for the adults, too — skim milk for the adults and teens, 2 percent for the school-age kids, and whole milk for the toddlers, unless your child’s doctor recommends otherwise.
